This report presents a comprehensive account of Global South perspectives on global governance reform, with a focus on the United Nations system. In the face of overlapping global crises—ranging from the COVID-19 pandemic to climate change and rising geopolitical tensions—it highlights the urgency of creating a more inclusive, equitable, and representative multilateral order. The findings contribute to ongoing international discussions leading up to the 2024 Summit of the Future.
Produced by the Global South Perspectives Network—a collaboration between FOGGS and HumanizaCom—the report draws on insights from over 500 participants across Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, and beyond. It employs a multimethod approach, including surveys, focus groups, and document analysis, to capture both the common concerns and regional nuances shaping views on UN reform. At its core, the report emphasizes the Global South’s demand for more meaningful participation, fairness, and accountability in global decision-making.
By centering voices often underrepresented in international forums, this report serves as both a diagnostic and a call to action for more pluralistic global governance. It not only maps perceptions but also suggests pathways toward a more resilient, cooperative, and future-oriented multilateral system.
